OPRAH TALKS TO NEIL PATRICK HARRIS ABOUT GAY PARENTING, OTHER STUFF
So I haven’t seen Oprah’s new network – pretty much at all – as we also haven’t had cable for the past 2 years (we stream all we can through a complicated system of pulleys, speakers, XBox consoles, and wires).
However, I was excited to see that one of what seems to be many fragmented versions of the old Oprah show, “Oprah’s Next Chapter” featured actor Neil Patrick Harris, his husband, David Burtka, and their 2-year-old twins, Gideon and Harper.
The notoriously private NPH opened up about parenting fears, realizing he was gay, and their desire to have children. Check out some of the highlights below.
Here, NPH and DB talk about how they didn’t take the decision to have children lightly, and about being honest with their twins about they way they were made down the line. As a result, Oprah has a self-described “a ha” moment about the whole process, saying “I just realized…same sex couples…in order to have children you have to really really really want it.”
Later in the show, Neil opens up about not feeling as “maternal” as David for the first six months.
Finally, Oprah meets the twins, who are pretty damn cute. Oprah also plays dumb to get across to viewers the difference between an egg donor and surrogate, including a helpful comparison of the surrogate to “an oven.” Gotta explain it to the masses some way!
